Crystal Care Guide
Your bracelet came from the earth. Treat it like it matters.
No ceremony required. No complicated rituals. No $40 crystal-cleaning kits you don't actually need.
Here is the honest truth: the crystals in your bracelet are genuine mineral specimens that formed over thousands of years under real geological pressure. They are not decorative glass. They are not costume pieces. They have an authentic vibration — and they need a little actual care to keep it.
This is everything I do in my own practice. Short, direct, and nothing I'd be embarrassed to say to your face.
01. ENERGY CLEANSING
What I Actually Do
Your bracelet absorbs energy throughout the day. That's not a metaphor — that's the whole reason you wear it. But what it collects, it eventually needs to release. Cleanse your bracelet at least once a month. More often if you're going through something heavy.
Here are the two methods I reach for, in order of preference.
🌕 Full Moon Overnight
My first choice. Every time. Zero risk.
On the night of a full moon, lay your bracelet flat on a piece of raw, unwashed cotton or threshed linen — on a windowsill or directly outside on a dry surface. Leave it overnight. Bring it in before the afternoon sun hits.
That's the whole method. The moonlight does what it does.
This is the only cleansing approach that carries zero physical risk to either the beads or the elastic cord. No heat. No moisture. No chemical contact. Just your bracelet and the sky, doing something quiet together.
I do this with every bracelet before it ships from my workshop. I recommend you do it once a month.
🌿 Sage & Palo Santo Smudging
For the weeks when the full moon is too far away.
Light your sage bundle or Palo Santo stick and let it settle into a steady, even smoke. Hold your bracelet in the rising smoke — or pass the smoke deliberately over and around every bead — for 30 to 60 seconds.
While you do it, set a clear intention. Something simple works best: release what this bracelet has been holding. Reset.
The smoke doesn't damage the beads. It doesn't stress the cord. It's one of the safest methods available for beaded bracelets, and it works particularly well after emotionally dense periods — a hard week, a draining relationship, a season you are genuinely ready to close.
Use it whenever you feel called to. There's no such thing as over-cleansing with smoke.
02. DAILY WASHING
Water, Common Sense & the One Rule You Cannot Break
Your bracelet lives on your wrist. Sweat, skin oils, sunscreen, and daily contact build up over time — that's just reality. A quick, gentle rinse every few weeks keeps the beads clear and the surface clean.
Here's how to do it without quietly destroying the cord.
What works:
- Hold your bracelet under lukewarm running water for 20 to 30 seconds
- Add one small drop of mild, fragrance-free soap if needed — work it gently across the beads with a fingertip
- Rinse thoroughly until the water runs completely clean
- Pat dry immediately with a soft cotton cloth — no rubbing, just pressing
- Lay it flat on a dry surface and let it air-dry fully before putting it back on your wrist
⚠️ THE ONE NON-NEGOTIABLE RULE: NEVER SOAK YOUR BRACELET.
I'm going to say this once, clearly, because it is the single most common mistake that shortens a bracelet's life.
Long-term soaking — even in plain water — allows moisture to migrate inside the elastic cord. It doesn't damage the cord on the surface. It breaks it down from the inside, slowly and invisibly, until one day the bracelet snaps earlier than it ever should have. You won't see it coming.
A 30-second rinse under running water? Completely fine. Leaving your bracelet submerged in a bowl, a sink, a bath, or any standing water? Never.
That one rule, respected consistently, will double the life of your bracelet. No exaggeration.
03. THE "NEVER" LIST
Protect Your Investment. Protect the Stone.
These are the things that damage your bracelet — sometimes visibly, sometimes silently — over time. No lectures. Just the list.
🚫 Prolonged Direct Sunlight
UV exposure causes real, physical color fading in natural crystals. Warmer-toned stones — Rose Quartz, Citrine, Amethyst, Golden Hematoid, Strawberry Quartz — are the most vulnerable. Brief sunlight during normal wear is completely fine. Leaving your bracelet on a sunny windowsill, a car dashboard, or a beach towel for extended periods is not.
Store your bracelet somewhere cool and shaded when it's not on your wrist.
🚫 Hot Showers, Saunas & Thermal Water
Take your bracelet off before any hot water environment. The combination of sustained heat, steam, and prolonged moisture exposure stresses the beads and the elastic cord at the same time — and thermal or mineral-rich water (like hot springs or salt pools) reacts chemically with the iron oxides and silica in your natural crystal beads.
Over repeated exposure, it dulls their surface and degrades them at the molecular level. This is not recoverable.
🚫 Fragrances, Lotions & Chemical Cleaners
Put your bracelet on last — always after your skincare, body lotion, and perfume are already on your skin. Fragrance chemicals, alcohol-based sprays, and synthetic dyes cloud the surface of natural crystal beads over time and quietly break down elastic cord integrity.
Household cleaning products — especially bleach, anything acidic, or anything alkali-heavy — should never make contact with your bracelet. Remove it before you clean. Every time.
🚫 Ultrasonic Cleaners
The answer here is always no. Ultrasonic machines use high-frequency vibration to clean — and that vibration is genuinely effective for solid metal work. For beaded bracelets, it is destructive.
Natural crystal beads contain internal fractures — the same cotton fractures and micro-inclusions that prove the stone is earth-formed and genuine. Ultrasonic vibration forces those fractures to expand. It is the one cleaning method that can permanently damage an otherwise healthy bead from the inside.
Leave the machine for the metalwork. Your crystals need gentleness, not frequency.
❓ Crystal Care FAQ
Q1: How do I cleanse a crystal bracelet at home?
The most effective and safest method is full moon cleansing — lay your bracelet flat on a natural cotton cloth on a windowsill overnight during a full moon, then bring it in before prolonged afternoon sun exposure. If you need a faster option, pass the bracelet through sage or Palo Santo smoke for 30 to 60 seconds with a clear intention to release and reset.
Q2: Can I get my crystal bracelet wet?
A brief rinse under lukewarm running water with mild soap is completely safe for most natural crystal beaded bracelets — pat dry immediately afterward with a soft cloth and allow to air-dry fully before wearing. Never soak a beaded bracelet in standing water, as sustained moisture penetrates and degrades the internal elastic cord over time, causing premature breakage.
Q3: Will sunlight damage my crystal bracelet?
Yes — prolonged direct UV exposure causes irreversible physical color fading in warm-toned natural crystals including Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Citrine, and Strawberry Quartz. Brief sun exposure during everyday wear is harmless, but storing or leaving your bracelet in direct sunlight for extended periods will permanently dull its color over time.
Before You Go
Every bead in your NOVA CRYSTALS bracelet was hand-selected by me — held under a loupe, checked for authentic inclusions and natural fractures, sourced directly from small-scale family-operated mines. These are not factory beads. They are genuine mineral specimens, and they deserve a level of care that matches what they actually are.
Cleanse them when they feel heavy. Rinse them when they need it. Keep them away from the things that break them down quietly.
Do those three things, and your bracelet will stay with you — energetically and physically — for a long time.
That's the whole guide. I told you it wouldn't be complicated.
